In order to understand what a spinal cord disability is, it is important to understand a few things about the nervous system. The nervous system is divided into two parts, the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system. The central nervous system consists of the brain, the spinal cord, and the optic nerves.
Act 330 of 1977 mandated the Arkansas State Spinal Cord Commission establish and maintain a central registry of persons with Spinal Cord Injury or Disease. Every public and private health and social agency and attending physician shall report to the Commission within five (5) calendar days after identification of any person with an SCI or SCD.
